Day 1: Cape Town

Cape Town

Welcome to South Africa! Cape Town is also known as the “Mother City” and you will be enthralled by her beauty and perfection. On arrival you will see one of our most famous trademarks, Table Mountain, balanced soundly with the extraordinary city life of all Capetonians. A transfer can be pre-arranged by your travel consultant to take you to your hotel.

Module 1: At 19:00 a briefing will take place in the hotel’s lobby for all participants.

View Optional activities (NOT included)

Day 2: Lambert's Bay

After breakfast we depart from Cape Town and stop at “Blouberg Strand” for one last look at Table Mountain. If necessary, some last minute shopping can be done at a shopping centre close by.

We drive northwards along the N7 towards Namaqualand. If you are in luck, and in season, you might be able to see plates of “Namaqualand Daisies” (August and September). A left turn at Clan William will lead us towards the coast again as we head for Lambert’s Bay.

We should arrive in the picturesque town of Lambert’s Bay on the West Coast of South Africa around lunch time. There are various little interesting curio and souvenir shops in Lambert’s Bay that you can visit in the afternoon.

View Optional Activities (NOT included)

Day 3: Orange River

Orange River
Orange River

We leave Lambert’s Bay early in the morning and carry on with our journey north, through the Namaqualand and Northern Cape regions, towards the southern border of Namibia.

Depending on the time we will stop in Springbok, the capital of Namaqualand, either for lunch or just for a quick look around.

We head for the border post between South Africa and Namibia and if al goes well we will cross the border at Vioolsdrif and Noordoewer border posts in the afternoon and arrive at the accommodation late afternoon.

View Optional Activities (NOT included) – depending on time left after arrival at the lodge

Day 4: Fish River Canyon

There is time for an early morning optional visit to the nearby local village before we depart. Here you will be able to experience the way in which the local people live and earn their money.

Depending on the time, we will either stop for lunch on the way or alternatively lunch can be enjoyed at the accommodation where we will sleep in the area of the Fish River Canyon.

In the afternoon, after booking in at our accommodation for the night (and having enjoyed lunch – for your own account), we will visit the Fish River Canyon (included activity). This is the 2nd largest canyon in the world and is approximately 180km long. The rest of the afternoon can be enjoyed at leisure around the lodge. Some optional activities can also be booked.

Optional Activities (NOT included)

Day 5 : Sossusvlei

With quite a long day of driving, and only gravel roads ahead of us, we leave the lodge early and start our journey towards Sossusvlei (a clay pan, enclosed by the world’s largest sand dunes). On the way we pass some of the little towns in the southern part of Namibia like Bethanien and Helmeringhausen.

If time allows we might stop over at one of these towns for lunch. Alternatively we will have a picnic lunch at a suitable place along the road.

We arrive in the Sossusvlei area late afternoon and, if time allows, you could join an optional sundowner drive (NOT included).

Day 6: Sossusvlei

After breakfast we depart to the sea of red sand at Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei (included activity). As a result of erosion over many centuries, a narrow gorge of about one kilometre in length was formed about 30 to 40 metres deep at the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft Park.

Early explorers had to tie six lengths of thong together to draw water from the pools in the canyon, hence the name "Sesriem", meaning “six thongs” in Afrikaans.

Once we reach Sossusvlei, you will be able to enjoy an optional drive into the dunes (NOT included).

Lunch can be arranged (for your own cost) depending on the time.

After a long and most probably “hot” day in the dunes we proceed towards our next accommodation venue, where you will be able to relax, cool down and get rid of all the dune sand by taking a dive in the swimming pool in the late afternoon.

If time allows and you still feel like facing more sand in the dunes, you can join an optional Dune Drive (NOT included) for one last time in the Sossusvlei area.

Optional Activity (NOT included)

Day 7: Swakopmund

Swakopmund

We depart from the lodge in the Solitaire area and travel towards Swakopmund (a historical town that originated from the German colonial period. This will be noticeable from the street names and buildings in the town). On the way we have a coffee stop at Solitaire (a mystical little town consisting of a filling station, general dealer/coffee shop and small mechanical workshop).

Today’s drive will include some mountain passes, and you will be able to experience the real Namib Desert. About 30km south of Swakopmund (where we get a tarred road for the first time after hundreds of kilometres of gravel road) we drive past Walvis Bay, the town that hosts the only deep sea harbour on the Namibian Coastline.

We reach Swakopmund around lunchtime and stop at the Adventure Centre where there is a wide variety of very exciting and interesting optional activities to entertain you the next day (NOT included). A DVD show will introduce you to what each activity is about so that you can make the best possible choice as to what you feel like doing. (There will be active and more relaxed activities to choose from).

After lunch we book into our accommodation. The afternoon is at leisure to explore Swakopmund, do some shopping or just enjoy some time on your own.

Module 2 participants: Clients, who only arrive for Module 2, should join the rest of the group at the hotel around lunchtime in order to partake in the briefing at the Adventure Centre. Alternatively you can meet with the guide in the hotel lobby at 19:00.

Day 8: Swakopmund

Add a pinch of adventure and combine it with a will to have fun. Mix with an inquisitive eye and pour a lot of excitement in there! Today has endless opportunities because it is your day at leisure.
You are welcome to book some more of the exciting activities in the morning. Another option is to visit some historical buildings, museums or just do some shopping in town

If you are brave enough, a swim in the cold Namibian ocean can also be considered.
If you need to exchange money for the next few days, we recommend that you do it in Swakopmund as this is the last big town for a few days offering different banks with “Bureaux de Change” facilities.
We overnight in the same accommodation as the previous night.

Module 1 participants: Clients who leave after Module 1 say goodbye to the rest of the group who will depart early the following morning.

Optional Activities (NOT included)
